I think one of my favorite things to do when I recived a new companion and we are walking to our first appointment as a new companionship, I would to ask them, why did you choose to serve a mission? I found every single response fascinating. How is it that some many different people, from differnt countries, and cultures can come to know each other and love each other because of thier mutrual desire to serve others and their Father in Heaven? Everyone has a story, especially us sister missioanries. We all at one point had the incredilby nerve racking decision to call up our bishop, sit in his office, and say those words, both frightening and exciting, Bishop I have decided to serve a mission.
What lead you to that?
Its amazing to hear why and how so many wonderful women have decided to put employment opportunities, schooling, relationships, and family on hold to serve. I have come to see that everyone's story is important, especially your own. I have often heard that qoute that says 'the greatest love story ever told is your own.' Well it is the same with your story and what lead you to serve a mission. Your story will keep you going. It is what will keep you in the mission. It is what will keep you motivated when its 120 degrees outside or negative 2o degrees outside. Its what will ease the heartbreak when your investigators rejects you. It is what will help you cope with the lose of a loved one or 'dear jane'. Its what will help you remember that why. The why am I here? Why is she my companion? Why am I in this area or ward? Why am I in this mission? Why was I called to speak this language?
I thought of my story and my why every single day, and some days every hour.
Ask yourself why you have made this decision, write it down, pray about it, and remember it because it will come in handy!
